Science- Forces- Water Resistance Year 5/6

(1)
Water resistance is a force that tries to slow things down that are moving through water. It is a type of friction and sometimes called drag. In this lesson, students will learn what water resistance is and how it affects us. They will learn about streamlining and how we make things streamlined in order to reduce water resistance. They will also learn about upthrust and how this enables boats to float. They will complete a quiz mid-way through to check understanding. They will then carry out an experiment to investigate how the shape of aluminum foil affects how it behaves in water. The experiment worksheet is provided as well as an explanation into the reasons behind this. This lesson is 1/6 lessons on Forces. Science- Properties and Changes of materials- Separating Mixtures- Year 5

(2)
In this lesson, students will learn that a mixture is a combination of two or more substances that aren’t chemically joined and can be separated back into their individual substances. They will learn that there are two types of mixtures: heterogeneous and homogeneous and will look at examples of each. They will then look at how these mixtures can be separated before completing a quiz on what they have learnt. Following this, they will carry out 3 investigations of separating mixtures. They will follow the experiment proforma to help them organise, record and analyse their observations before discussing their experiments as a class. This lesson is one of 6 lessons on Properties and Changes of Materials. To view the other lessons, please visit: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/ResourcesForYou/Primary science

Science- Forces- Friction Year 5/6

(1)
Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding against each other. In this lesson, students will learn what friction is and how it affects us. They will look at the factors which influence friction and learn how friction can be helpful and unhelpful. There will be a quick quiz mid-session to check what they have learnt and then they will complete an investigation looking at different materials and the friction they produce. This lesson is 1/6 lessons on Forces. Electricity is a type of energy that can build up in one place or flow from one place to another. Electricity is the flow of electrons. In this lesson, students will learn how electricity is measured and what voltage is. They will learn that citrus fruits can be used as a battery to power electrical current and will investigate which citrus fruit is best to use. A writing frame will be provided for the experiment as well as an engaging powerpoint presentation to support them through the learning. This lesson is 1/5 on Electricity. Science- Light- Refraction lesson Year 6

(1)
Light is electromagnetic radiation which is visible to the human eye. In this lesson, students will learn about refraction of light and when it occurs. They will be shown examples of refraction in real life, such as in heat haze and mirages. They will then set up their own experiments to further investigate refraction with examples of investigations given. This is to challenge them to use their scientific enquiry skills. This lesson is 1/6 lessons on Light. To view the other lessons, please visit: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/ResourcesForYou/Primary science The lesson powerpoint, experiment help sheet and lesson plan are included.
